Marketing and Business Development Specialist

SUMMARY: This position plays a central role in supporting the firm’s go-to market strategy across industries, as well as playing a key role in support of our practices.  Our industry approach brings together Duane Morris lawyers across practices and regions to develop multidisciplinary thought leadership and insights addressing our clients’ business-critical issues. The Marketing & Business Development (MBD) Specialist has important, front-line responsibility with our lawyers in the development and implementation of business plans, client targeting initiatives, profile raising campaigns, and a myriad of other MBD efforts across the firm. He/she/they/them will work closely with a successful, well-regarded, and plugged-in group of Marketing & Business Development Managers, as well as our global MBD team.

 

The ideal candidate will be an outgoing, polished, detail-oriented, pathologically-organized and responsive professional with strong project-development and -management skills and a creative, solutions-oriented mindset, ideally honed in a large law firm or other professional services context.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works closely with Marketing & Business Development Managers to support the full spectrum of MBD needs, working alongside a robust full-service team of functional specialty groups (including Client Development, Communications, CRM, Graphics, Media, Pitches/Proposals, Events, and Administration)
  • Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with attorneys and colleagues in and out of the department and across the firm.
  • Work proactively and reactively with respect to attorney, practice, and industry needs and queries, and follow through to ensure needs are met.
  • Organizes internal group meetings and calls, drafting/distributing notes and action plan updates, actively participate in discussion and agenda-setting.
  • Supports select client and project teams in maintaining client satisfaction and growing the firm’s relationship with identified key clients across sectors.
  • Collects and organizes representative matters, client, and industry lists for use in marketing materials and standardized credentials.
  • Conducts research and compiles information on industry and market trends and competitor activity, to aid in the development of marketing plans, presentations, and proposals.
  • Helps create and manage content in concert with colleagues for use with practice and sector web presence, collateral, and other internal and external communication channels.
  • Coordinates internal and external client programs and sponsorships, including creating and distributing invitations; overseeing internal / external advertising; developing PowerPoint presentations, seminar materials, and handouts; working at, or attending, the event (whether live or virtual); measuring return on investment; and ensuring participant follow-up.
  • Providing support on other strategic marketing and business development initiatives as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong relationship-development, project management, communication, and proactive client service skills and attitude are essential.
  • 4+ years’ of experience in a law firm (AmLaw 100 firm a plus) or other professional services firm desired.
  • Experience in lawyer/practice/industry support, including coaching, team mentoring, events, pitch/other content development, budget creation/management.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to diverse work styles.
  • Must be outgoing, comfortable demonstrating initiative, and able to think critically and creatively.
  • High sense of responsibility, accountability, and focus on responsiveness.
  • College degree required. English or other writing-intensive background helpful. Occasional travel required.
