JOB TITLE: Docket Clerk

SUMMARY: Duane Morris LLP is looking to hire an experienced and detail‑oriented Docket Clerk with at least two to four years’ experience in the Managing Attorney/Clerks office. The ideal candidate will have experience managing and maintaining court calendars, filing deadlines, court follow-up and working knowledge of the federal and state court rules, court practices and court procedures. The candidate will also be licensed or willing to obtain a Process Server Individual license through the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) and may be required to assist with serving legal documents as needed.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Monitor and update court dockets and case calendars to ensure accurate recording of filings, hearings, deadlines, and continuances.
  • Input and maintain case information in electronic docketing and court‑calendar systems, verifying dates, parties, and court rules.
  • Prepare, organize, and distribute court‑related reports and reminder notices to attorneys, support staff, and court personnel.
  • Assist with filing documents in person or electronically with state and federal courts in New York, adhering to local rules and procedures.
  • Serve as or coordinate with a licensed process server in New York City, including serving summonses, subpoenas, and other legal documents in compliance with DCWP licensing requirements.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and accuracy of all client and case information, following court and firm policies.
  • Perform general clerical and administrative tasks related to court support, such as copying, scanning, and organizing case files.
  • Litigation Mail: Scanning, docketing and emailing attorneys re: litigation mail and legal pleadings sent to the firm via first class mail, fed ex or hand delivery.
  • Fulfill the requirements of any other job/descriptions within the department when needed and to assist with other miscellaneous duties/projects within the department whenever needed.
  • Monitoring: Online and manually the following:
  • Cases in the Appellate Divisions, Supreme Courts., USDC-EDNY/SDNY
     and other federal courts where we have actions pending via the various on-line
     programs that the Managing Clerks Office has for any new NextGen CM/ECF or
     NYSCEF filings, decisions/orders, conferences, motions, trial date etc. and
     downloading orders for docketing.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or coursework in legal studies, paralegal studies, or criminal justice preferred.
  • Prior experience in a law office, court clerkship, or legal support role strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and multitasking skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with docketing or case‑management software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain a Process Server Individual license from the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP).

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Familiarity with New York State, New York District court procedures and rules.
  • Prior experience serving as a process server or in a related field.
  • Have prior docketing experience and familiarity with Milana and CourtAlert Westlaw, LexisNexis, ETrack, Elaw, NYSCEF and PACER.

 

Salary Range: $75,000 to $85,000. Please note that the salary offered will depend on the candidate's experience, specialized knowledge, skills, comparable qualifications and other relevant factors.
