Overview:  Duane Morris LLP, a global law firm with 900+ attorneys in offices across the U.S. and around the world, offers innovative solutions to the legal and business challenges presented by today’s evolving global markets. This position will require a minimum of 4 days in the office per week per the firm’s hybrid work policy.

 

Summary: The Manager of Credit and Collections oversees the firm’s client credit assessment, billing collections, and accounts receivable management processes. This role is responsible for optimizing cash flow, minimizing bad debt exposure, and ensuring the firm’s collections practices align with client relationship priorities and professional standards. The Manager collaborates closely with Partners, Practice Group Leaders, and Finance leadership to develop strategies that support the firm’s financial objectives while maintaining a client-centric approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of credit and collections specialists, ensuring consistent performance, professional development, and adherence to firm policies.
  • Develop and oversee firm-wide credit and collections policies, procedures, and reporting mechanisms; recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accountability.
  • Review engagement terms and matter billing arrangements to identify credit risks and establish appropriate credit limits and terms.
  • Partner with attorneys and client relationship managers to proactively manage receivables and support timely collections without compromising client relationships.
  • Analyze aged receivables and generate regular reports for senior management, including trends, forecasts, write-off risks, and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with the billing, pricing, and client intake teams to ensure accurate data and alignment between credit approvals, billing cycles, and collections strategies.
  • Advise finance leadership on potential high-risk accounts, disputes, or clients requiring escalation or alternative payment arrangements.
  • Oversee external collection agencies or third-party recovery processes when appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with professional and legal standards relevant to financial transactions, client confidentiality, and data privacy.
  • Contribute to firmwide financial process improvement initiatives, including technology integrations and automation of collection workflows.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in credit, collections, or financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to interact effectively with partners and senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, with proficiency in financial systems (e.g., Aderant), Excel, and BI tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop team performance metrics and implement best practices in credit and collections management.
  • High degree of discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling confidential financial information.
